  1. Sign in to Dell TechDirect with an account enrolled for your school.
  2. Go to APIs, and request access to the Warranty and Entitlements API if you have not already.
  3. Once approved, generate an API key and API secret. These are the OAuth client id and secret.

Approval is not instant. Dell reviews API requests, and it typically takes a few business days.

Dell identifies hardware by service tag, a seven-character code, rather than by what other vendors call a serial number.

In practice they are the same thing on Dell hardware and the connector treats the serial on a device record as the service tag. If a lookup fails for a device you know is Dell, check that what is recorded is the service tag rather than an asset tag your school applied.

A school with Dell laptops and Apple iPads configures both this and Apple GSX. A device’s coverage resolves through whichever vendor’s connector recognises it.
